Soul Patrol

The result show on thurs was great. All 12 finalists performed, definitely made up for the boring final showdown. Nice to see Paris on stage again - almost forgot what powerful vocals she has. She did a duet with Al Jarreau, the 5-time grammy award winning jazz / crossover legend (so his website said) on we're in this love together - excellent combination!

I wonder would the last two standing put on a better show had it been Paris, Elliott or Chris?

Katharine vs Taylor

Was disappointed with the AmI finale.

The show kicked off with Kat singing black horse and the cherry tree... again! Perhaps she sang slightly better this time. She did somewhere over the rainbow next,.. and again at that too. But i have to give it to her - she still sang superbly. That's definitely her song. But i felt the sitting and singing part works only once?!

Kat didn't nail it in her last song, it was a so-so performance nothing great.. even Jac Victor's gemilang had me like wow when she performed it for the first time. The judges said that it wasn't Kat's fault - she's a great singer and all, just poor song.

Taylor really got the crowd moving with his first rendition. I thought he performed his first two songs before too. Although Taylor's last song wasn't that great a song (but perhaps slightly better compared to Kat's), like the judges said, he did make the song his own.

My fav would always be Katharine but I wouldn't really mind Taylor as the next AmI. He's unique in his own quirky way. And to be fair, he can sing too. But i look forward to Kat's album (and Elliott's and Paris') rather than Taylor's - his style is so 80s.

Nirpal Singh Dhaliwal's Tourism

Just completed reading Tourism over the weekend. It's been ages since i last completed a book. And it took me less than a week for this 246-page fiction. So this must be some read huh?!

It's a filthy (18sx) and fun read altogether. Tourism has really nothing to do with your usual sightseeing industry. This first novel by Dhaliwal centres on the life of Bhupinder 'Puppy' Singh from his early years in Southall to later London. The book takes us back to when he was ostracised and mocked in school for being an Asian. And later he grew up wanting to escape from his tradition-centred family.

there was actually a star-shaped sticker beneath the letters 'r' and 'i' which was peeled off by my itchy fingers ;p (my guess - for local distribution!)

It tells of Puppy and his bunch of alcohol/weed/nicotine-addict friends, a gay pal, and his long-hidden (from her at least) desires for a voluptuous Gujerati (so much for high moral values here!). Not forgetting his parasitic relationship with his model-girlfriend (i so despise this type of male). We get to see London through the eyes of an 'outsider'.

I would say this is something like Sex and the City,... but narrated by a guy with London as the centre stage, not New York. I suspect the main character's story mirrored the writer's own? I could be wrong, maybe mirrored is not the right word.. influence perhaps?..

What made me pick up this book? Well, the suggestive photo cover and the summary (as always actually). Was interested in the book when i first saw it two weeks ago and finally went back to buy it the following week. Good thing i did.

Pepper and her annual jab

Brought this cutie to the vet earlier for her annual booster. She is so not a car-doggie,.. with her whimpering and shivering in dad's arms.. not to mention shitting too! Eww..

But have to give her credit for not moving a muscle or making a sound when receiving her shot. Good girl! If Bobby.. sigh.. he would whimper even before receiving the jab. Miss him :(

Anyway back to Pepper. She got her nails clipped too... err.. but far from ur manicure and pedicure! The vet asked her to be weighed - Pepper's 11kg, about 3.5kg extra than the recommended weight for her type. Obesity is common for a neutered female. So have to really be careful of her food and to exercise more, orelse she'll suffer in old age. All too familiar huh?!! And the doc mentioned about being wary of protein intake. Hmm.. i was like hello.. do you mean simple carb doc?!

Da Vinci Code

Darling asked me to write about Da Vinci Code. Err.. dun really know how to start or what to write. We catched it on the first day of screening. Mom told me earlier that the movie would not be censored. Then i was thinking are there scenes to cut?... then it came to me.. Silas and his self-flagellation (darling was admiring paul bettany's fit form.. hehe). Or course they wouldn't dream of leaving that scene out... go figure!

Read the book last year but forgot parts of it. And as the story unfolded, it all slowly came back to me. In the movie it seemed all too easy the way Langdon and Neveu cracked the codes, unlike the impression i got from the book. Ron Howard did a good job in squeezing the movie in 2hr+. But i thought the book did reveal in the end that that were Sophie's grandma and brother - no mention of her brother in the movie though. Don't have the book now with me to refer. A friend borrowed it to buat jeruk.. he's not reading it as yet but wanted to read it cos it's such a hit! Duhh!

People are willing to read and believe Dan Brown. Who is he lar?! He even got his so-called facts wrong. And regarding "The Last Supper". It was only a painting by leonardo. Full stop. Even if it was drawn in such a way, it still doesn't mean a thing. But i'm viewing all this in a positive way, that this would spark interest in reading and wanting to know the Bible.

'Exemplary' road users

Travelling frequently can be boring. So when boredom sets in and armed only with my 7610, these are the results...

No need for helmets as they have head as tough as a coconut. The helmets are placed instead by their side to clear their path of any obstructing vehicles. Ouch!

The south stretch of the north-south expressway is undergoing some major roadworks (widening the road to 3 lanes instead of 2.. yay!). So, along certain stretch would have warning cones placed to keep off road users. But some impatient clowns would cut the line by taking that blocked lane. Oh i'm so envious of their intelligence!

Ne-Yo's so sick

Tis has got to be the ultimate breakup song.. and also currently our fav song. The words are just so sad.. err.. but no personal meaning to us lar!

Gotta change my answering machine
Now that I'm alone
'Cause right now it says that we
Can't come to the phone
And I know it makes no sense
'Cause you walked out the door
But it's the only way I hear your voice
Anymore

(It's ridiculous)
It's been months for some reason I just
(Can't get over us)
And I'm stronger than this
(Enough is enough)
No more walking 'round with my head down
I'm so over being blue
Crying over you

(Chorus)
And I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing
You were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs
So sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?

Gotta fix that calendar I have
That's marked July 15th
Because since there's no more you
There's no more anniversary
I'm so fed up with my thoughts of you
And your memories
And now every song reminds me
Of what used to be

(Chorus)
That's the reason
I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing
You were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs
So sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?

O-o-h (Leave me alone)
Leave me alone (Stupid love song)
Don't make me think about her smile
Or having my first child
Then lettin' go
Turning off the radio

(Chorus x3)
'Cause I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing
She were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs
So sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
(So why can't I turn off the radio?)
Why can't I turn off the radio?

Love is patient

An incident that tested my patience happened in church this morning. Yea, of all places. I'll name that person irritating aunty.

Irritating aunty: hello is this seat taken?

Poor me: nope. (smiling)

Irritating aunty: dharmindra not coming?

Poor me: nope. (still smiling, although tat question always seemed to me like snooping about my business whether ornot i'm sitting with darling's family!)

Irritating aunty: u fetching ur mother-in-law.. opps.. sorry dharmindra's mom to the cooking demo this Sat?

Poor me: i'm not married yet so no mother-in-law (mumbling). yes (big smile).

Irritating aunty: she said u're fetching her. so u can fetch me since i'm staying on the way. u know where i stay rite, i'll wait outside at 1.30 since it's starting at 2pm.
(she needs a favour from me and yet she's telling me what time to fetch her, etc at her convenience. and the best part is that she could tell me her house is on the way? what if the route i choose to use doesn't pass her house? mlk is small but big enough to have diffferent routes to any one destination! puhleezz!!)

Poor me: ok. (yes boss, whatever u say!!) oh but i need to leave early cos need to go kl.

Irritating aunty: oh so early arr.. blah blah blah...

Poor me: (didn't know why i even bothered telling her i gotta leave early!.. oh.. now i remember, cos one incident somebody else fetched her somewhere but had to leave earlier, and she was busy mengumpat about that person for not willing not wait a lil longer!)

Arrghh!! I just can't stand her. Oh, i do have a high level of tolerance (when not on the road la), but not for this woman. Cause she's such a hypocrite, the type that bites the hand that feeds.. and gossip queen number 1!!!. Sorry lar, I don't have the patience in dealing with her like my darling.

My new locks

Spent 3hrs plus today on my hair. Yup finally got my perm. Had a tough time deciding the type of perm to do. And it doesn't help that i'm so fickle. Finally was persuaded into doing a digital perm.

The heat treatment process was kinda scary. They had all these heating clips fixed to the end of my hair. And i went like "oh no" when they covered my ears with a pair of 'ear-protectors?'. And i could really felt the heat. Lucky it lasted 20mins only.

Happy with the end results. Looks like Karen's when she first had hers done. Yes i can confidently say that digital perm everywhere looks the same.

My mms couldn't work (for whatever reason) or else would have sent a pic to my darling in Surabaya at this moment. I'll just gotta wait till Monday then.

Bad hair days

Itching for a perm. No, not because i received a big fat incentive. It's just that i've been having one of those bad hair days for awhile now. Still contemplating. Most likely will do it tmr. It's been more than a yr since my last perm anyway.

Princess Paris

Paris is out. Although she's better than some, but she had the least number of votes and was voted out. So sad :( She's real good with a powerful voice, and she's still so young. I believe this is not the end for her, instead the beginning of many great things.

Who i want as the final two: Katharine and Elliott

Who i feel would be the final two: Katharine and Chris

The big Q is: When will Taylor be out? He's good but somebody's gotta leave first!

These are a few of my fav fours (sing to the tune of my fav things)
